Searching for the perfect match?

You may have discovered finding the perfect engagement ring a tricky task, but for those wishing for both their engagement ring and wedding ring to match up harmoniously in both shape and style, it can be somewhat more challenging.

Matching or at least coordinating both the engagement and wedding ring has grown in popularity in recent years, with a number of people even choosing to get both rings created together to form one beautifully fluid design.

With a large array of wedding ring styles to choose from, the possibilities are endless. Similar to buying an engagement ring, ensure you take your time when making the all-important decision, after all these rings are designed to be worn for the rest of your life so should be considered carefully. With that in mind, here are a few tips to help you choose the ideal wedding band.

Allow yourself time

It is recommended to give yourself plenty of time, at least two to three months in advance of the wedding, to find the perfect band to compliment your engagement ring. Ideally, you will need to allow yourself enough time to research, browse and try on as many styles as you possibly can - the more designs you explore the higher chance you will find a great match.

Choosing your wedding band style

You already have the engagement ring of your dreams and you are searching for a beautiful wedding band to perfectly compliment it. Depending on your engagement ring style, there are a few tips you can follow when searching for a wedding ring to pair with it. It is important to remember that there are no right or wrong answers, however, personal preference should always prevail.

Classic solitaire rings

With one diamond at the centre, the classic solitaire ring is renowned as one of the most popular engagement ring styles. It is usually easier to find a great wedding ring match for this style due to the simplicity of the design, however, we would recommend selecting a plain band to accentuate the size and appearance of the diamond.

Side stone & halo rings

Those looking for maximum sparkle are likely to have opted for a beautiful side stone or halo engagement ring. Featuring a number of small diamonds to create one stunning design, these wonderfully sparkly styles tend to pair perfectly with most wedding rings. For maximum impact why not try matching with a full eternity ring to create a glamorous overall design.

Bezel rings

A bezel ring is perfect for those who like a modern and contemporary no-fuss shape. This simplistic yet elegant style features a single diamond surrounded by a circle of metal for maximum security. Complement the rounded design with a plain band in a similar width and shape for a sleek match.

Uniquely shaped rings

Engagement rings in unique shapes seem to be increasing in popularity, making it much more difficult to find a wedding band that matches. Perhaps the diamond is particularly large or it sticks out in an unusual angle. First, you should identify where it sticks out and then find a shaped wedding ring to match the curve as closely as possible.

Consider metal types

It is generally encouraged to consider the karat purity of the metal when matching both wedding and engagement rings, as there is usually a noticeable difference between 9k and 18k gold. A lower karat will generally appear duller than that with a higher amount of gold content.

If you have a yellow gold engagement ring, it is advised to choose the complementary matching metal as this tends to sit better with similar yellow gold pieces. For those looking at white gold and platinum, it seems perfectly acceptable to mix-and-match these metals.

Coloured gemstones

If your engagement ring features a beautiful coloured gemstone, why not try finding a wedding band that incorporates the same stone colour. Another great option is to alternate diamonds with the coloured gemstones for a unique overall finish. A good tip for coloured gemstones is to always take the centre stone into consideration, as this is the main focus point, when choosing a coordinating design.

Combining old & new

For those with a vintage or unique ring, which has been passed down perhaps from a relative, it can be somewhat more difficult to find a complementary style. It is recommended to opt for either a plain or matching vintage wedding band in the same type of metal for the perfect pairing.

Consider bridal sets

Looking for an easy, no-fuss way to match both your engagement and wedding rings perfectly? Perhaps you should consider a bridal set, which essentially does the difficult work for you.
